City Light Planning for the city center


The basic idea of light planning in Esslingen is to emphasize its natural situation and the historical heritage of a city by night. The cityscape should be readable during day- and night time. The fortress is treated as the main element of the city. The heart of the city, which includes the market-square and its arteries is emphasised by light, although the ring-road with its historical elements used for orientation. Different historical street typologies are defined and receive appropriate lighting.
